Ayodhya is one of Hinduism's holiest cities — believed birthplace of Lord Ram. The Ram Mandir (consecrated January 2024) is the centerpiece. The city is undergoing massive infrastructure development. Deeply religious atmosphere — expect chanting, bells, and processions. Sensitive religious site — be culturally aware.
What to Wear
Conservative dress required. Cover shoulders and knees. Remove shoes at all temples. No leather items in temple areas. Women should carry a scarf/dupatta for head covering.
Food Safety
Strictly vegetarian city — no meat, fish, eggs, or alcohol available. Temple prasad is safe to eat. Street food along Saryu ghat is busy and generally decent. Bottled water essential.
