Smaller than Athirapally but surrounded by denser forest and far fewer people. A forest trail connects both falls. Great Hornbills and Malabar Trogons frequent the area. Best in monsoon.
A 50-foot cascade tumbling onto the road itself — you stop the car at the curve, walk 30m to the wet base of the falls. Most spectacular in July-October monsoon when the water spills across the tarmac. The Sholayar road continues into Tamil Nadu (Valparai) but the gate at the Vazhachal check-post often turns vehicles back after Charpa. Lion-tailed Macaque and Nilgiri Langur sightings between Vazhachal and Charpa.
Drive past Vazhachal toward the Anamudi Shola NP buffer. The 15-25km stretch crosses the Sholayar reservoir bridge and climbs into mid-elevation evergreen forest. Lion-tailed Macaque sightings most reliable 7-9am and 4-6pm; Nilgiri Langur common throughout. Forest Department check-post at Vazhachal stops vehicles after 4pm; entry permit ₹30/vehicle. Carry binoculars; do not feed or stop too close. Return same day — no overnight permissions.

Athirapally is a waterfall destination with almost no standalone restaurants — the only genuinely on-site option is the snack counter inside the Forest Department entry plaza at the falls. It serves basic Kerala snacks and tea to visitors before or after the walk down to the waterfall.
Tip: Set expectations low — this is a basic forest-department snack counter, not a restaurant. Have a pazham pori and tea, but plan a proper meal in Chalakudy 30km west. Carry water; food choice at the falls is minimal.

Ranked among the few restaurants of Athirappilly on Tripadvisor, Hydel Palace Restaurant at Vettilappara on the road to the falls is one of the only genuine standalone eateries in this thin destination — a practical multi-cuisine sit-down meal for visitors who do not want to drive 30km back to Chalakudy.
Tip: On the Athirapally road at Vettilappara — convenient as a meal stop on the way to or from the falls. Order Kerala meals at lunch. It is one of very few proper restaurants in the immediate Athirapally area; do not expect city-level choice.

Rainforest Resort is a small nine-room property set right by the Athirapally Falls, and its restaurant has the rare draw of a direct waterfall view. It is the upscale dining option at the falls — though primarily for resort guests, it is one of the only proper sit-down meals available in this thinly served destination.
Tip: The restaurant mainly serves resort guests — non-residents should call well ahead to ask about a table, as the property is tiny. The waterfall view from the restaurant is the reason to come. Resort pricing applies.

A famous homely-food eatery with nearly 48 years of history on the Chalakudy-Athirapally road, Vasuettante Kada (Vasuvettan's shop) is the long-running local favourite for Kerala banana-leaf lunch — celebrated for its chicken, duck, pork and beef dishes and a distinctive mango curry. It is the most-cited genuine local meal for anyone heading to Athirapally Falls.
Tip: Lunch only — plan around it. On the Chalakudy-Athirapally road, an easy stop on the drive in or out (Chalakudy is the gateway town ~30km from the falls). The banana-leaf rice meal with mango curry is the order; the interiors are basic but the crowd tells the story.
